Belle Fourche Lions to host lunch for International Youth Camp

Young people from Japan, Germany, Israel, Italy, Spain, Poland, Australia, Brazil and Finland — as well as youth from Saskatchewan and the Dakotas — have converged on the northern Black Hills as part of the  International Youth Exchange Camp being hosted by District 5SW.  The camp is being held at Camp Kinship, south of Deadwood through next Saturday, July 18, 2015.  It got underway last weekend (7/12/15).

On Tuesday (5/14/15) Belle Fourche Lions will host about 50 Youth Camp attendees at an 11:30am luncheon to be served at the Belle Fourche Fire Hall.  Mayor Gloria Lamphere is expected to be on hand for a short welcome.  Joining the festivities will be about 10 counselors, Lions Club members and personnel from the Fire Department.

Students from ages 15-18 participate in this program.  While the campers are not necessarily Leos or children of Lions Club members, they are all endorsed by their local Lions Clubs.  It is open to 20 International Students and 20 MD5 students.  The fee for the camp is $400.

It's a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for young people from our area to meet and interact with students from all over the world.  The agenda includes hiking in the beautiful Black Hills, swimming, canoeing, miniature golf, bumper boats, and bumper cars, sight seeing in the Black Hills including Crazy Horse and the lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore.
