Tickets now on sale……be a winner!

Lion Gerald Keil (at right) buys the first tickets to support the South Dakota Lions Foundation.  The tickets went on sale at the first fall meeting of the Belle Fourche Lions Club this week (9/12/13), and club Secretary Del Neumeister makes the transaction.  A drawing for eight cash prizes will be held in January, and the Grand Prize winner will rake in $2,000.  Second prize is $1,000 and 3rd Prize is $500.  Plus, there'll be five $100 cash prizes.  Tickets are $5 each; five tickets for $20, or -- the best deal:  TEN for $25.

Lion Tail Twister Rick Walton was heard to say, "Lions are benevolent, Lions are dedicated, and Lions are smart!  That's why I bought ten tickets for just $25!"  Collected funds will support the the South Dakota Lions Foundation, which promotes early detection as an important step in helping to prevent the development of blindness, deafness, diabetes, and other serious conditions.  Want a ticket?  Contact Lion Larry Miller.

Lions usher another great Black Hills Roundup!

Thanks, Lion Pardners!

The Black Hills Roundup is now history -- but what a grand time it was!  The event is not only a community service project, but it also serves as a fund raiser for our Lions Club, which traditionally provides ushering for the event.

Thanks to these Lions for ushering during the  94th annual Black Hills Roundup:

TOM NARY ushered three performances!    And the following Lions volunteered for two sessions: RICH DRABEK, LEO ORME,  BRIAN KLINE, and RICK WALTON.  Others who contributed their time ushering were:  ERIC BEALS, JOHN COOPER, BOB DRABEK, RON ENSZ, DARREN MESSNER, LARRY MILLER, BOB MORRIS, and DEL NEUMEISTER.

Belle Fourche Lions win MD5 website award…….again!

District 5-SW Governor Lion Janice Wagner (center) made the trip from Hot Springs to Belle Fourche last Saturday (6/15/13) to present the club with a plaque honoring it for its website.  Receiving the award for the club is webmaster Lion Larry Miller.  The award was made during a very busy time for the club -- the All Car Rally at Herrmann Park in Belle Fourche.  You'll find this and other photos from the event in our All Car Rally gallery.  Pictured left-to-right are Lions Brian Kline, Tom Nary, Rick Walton, Rik Bartels, Larry Miller, Jan Wagner, Ron Ensz, Gerald Keil, and Rich Drabek.  This is the second year in a row that the club has won the award.

Even before South Dakota became a state, firefighters across the territory had organized training sessions that have become known as the South Dakota State Fire School.

This year, the three-day session was held in Belle Fourche June 6-8.   More than 500 firefighters from across the state were on hand for training sessions that included considerable "hands on" activity.  Scheduling was tight, and participants were kept extremely busy.  But as schedules allowed, lunch was a necessity, some eating early -- some later.

The Belle Fourche Lions Club was among the several vendors who provided lunch on Friday and Saturday.   Visit our 2013 Fire School gallery to get a glimpse of the rush for our Lions roast beef sandwiches, chips, soft drinks -- and delectable brownies!

Who am I? What is today? Where am I supposed to be?

Okay, let's face it, even fierce Lions have those days when it's difficult to remember things.

So we're going to try to make it easier for you.

We can't manage your schedule for you, but we can keep you abreast of Lions activities and events. And with our new "Calendar of Events" we can provide you with additional details that we've not been able to list previously.

The small calendar window shown at left is what we have used in the past to keep you up to date about Lions events.

But... with the advent of summer, vacations, etc. and no Lions meetings for a while, it may be a bit difficult --  perhaps even downright tedious -- trying to remember what shift you signed up for ushering during the  Roundup.  Or even IF you signed up!  Who's in charge?  What time do I have to be there?  These and other important facts about Lions activities can now be listed in our all-new Calendar.  You'll find it among the topics listed in the Tab Bar at the top of the page.

Tab Bar?  It looks like this:

The Tab Bar can lead you to lots of information; but CALENDAR is the latest tool that we think you might find useful.

Of course, the key to keeping the Calendar up to date will be committee chairman.  The bar has been set high by Secretary Del Neumeister, who has been Johnny (Del)-on-the-spot with Minutes of our Lions meetings, which are archived on this site.  They, too, can be accessed through the Tab Bar.

Give the Calendar a try.  As always, your comments and suggestions are encouraged!  CLICK HERE to contact your Lions Webmaster.  Thanks.

New officers and directors tapped during a busy Lions night

Marcie Urban provided some rather sobering  statistics
regarding obesity in our society -- including Belle Fourche!
It was a busy night for the Belle Fourche Lions Club last night (4/11/13) as members gathered for their first April meeting.

Marcie Urban from the Belle Fourche Area Community Center (BFACC) presented a program on the Healthify Family Workshop, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 5, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at BFACC.

After sharing some rather startling statistics about obesity in our society, she provided details about Healthify, which will offer some great ways for families and individuals to "healthify" their lives through a variety of techniques ranging from learning about portion distortion to ways to get families moving!  She underscored that there are no diets involved in the program -- and no hard-to-remember and hard-to-do workouts.

"Just lots of small ways to 'healthify' our lives," she said.   The event is a preliminary to the walking classes that are scheduled for May 7, 9, 14, 16, 21 and 23 from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m.  Registrations are due by Monday, April 29.

Entry fee for the event is $1.00 per person

Lions club agreed to donate $218 to the BFACC to support "Healthify" in an effort to get more kids involved in the program.

Dallas Connor from the Post Prom Committee appeared before the group to request support for the Post Prom event.  Members agreed to donate $50.

Lion president Rick Bartels (left) recognizes long-time
member John Cooper for his work in promoting Lions
Another positive moment of the evening came when Lion John Cooper was awarded a "Key" pin for his good work in"opening the door to at least two individuals" to Lionism during the past year.

Several vacancies on the Lions Board were filled last night.  They included:  Lion Rick Walton as 3rd Vice President; Lion Rich Drabek as Treasurer; Lions Darren Messner and Robert Schnaible as 1st Year Directors; Lions Swede Wennberg and Chuck Livingston as 2nd Year Directors; and Lion John Cooper as Tail Twister.  Lions Rik Bartels continues as president of the club, and Del Neumeister remains as Treasurer.  Thanks to them all for their willingness to continue in positions of leadership for Belle Fourche Lions Club!

You'll find the full slate of current Belle Fourche Lions Club Directors under the Officers/Directors tab at the top of this page.  Too, you can see full versions of these and other photographs of our many projects and activities in our Lions Gallery.

To all who bought tickets for our March 24th Lions Pancake Breakfast at the Moose Lodge, we extend a heartfelt "Thank you!"   Funds raised during this event help your Lions Club with a variety of community projects.  And to all our Lion members who worked hard to make the breakfast a success, we extend a hefty Lion ROAR!  You'll find a few snapshots of the event in our Lions Photo Gallery.

Pancake guys support cookie girls!

Lions Club treasurer Rich Drabek presents a $50 check to Junior Girl Scout Troop 70001 of Belle Fourche for "Operation Taste of Home."  Accepting the check are scouts LeeAna Best (center) and Seyara Sechser (right).  The money will allow the troop to send a case of Girl Scout Cookies to military personnel serving overseas.  The Junior Girls Scouts also use money collected from cookie sales for a variety of community service projects -- like the "Pretty the City" project that provided for the planting of flowers at Herrmann Park.  This year, they hope to help plant more trees along the River Walk.  You'll find a higher resolution version of this photograph -- and many other images -- in our Lions Gallery.

Like our ambitious Junior Girl Scouts, the Belle Fourche Lions Club has a history of  projects at Herrmann Park and throughout the community.  Those activities are supported by our annual Lions Pancake Feed, which is coming up on Sunday, March 24th from 8am to 1pm at the Moose Lodge.  Tickets are on sale from Lions Club members -- but they'll also be available at the door!

What in the world happened at Lions this week?

Not much goes over the head of Lion Neumeister!
